Life Cycle
Gray squirrels begin matting in late December or early January and mate again from late May to early July. Gestation runs for about 45 days, and most litters are born in February or March, and July or August respectively. One to eight may comprise a litter but two or three are the norm. The young are weaned at just over 7 weeks of age.
